Many older Powermatic lathes use VFD-S or VFD-B drives which are no longer manufactured or sold. You may be able to find an aftermarket one sites like eBay. Alternatively you can replace the older drive with the Delta recommended replacement for the both the VFD-S and VFD-B, the Delta MS300. This will require different wiring and slightly different parameter setup, but will work.
Wiring - the control wiring for the MS300 is different from the older VFD-S. You will want to take a picture of the current wiring before disconnecting the old drive. Here is a different article that shows the mapping of control wires between the 2 drives. Connector Mapping VFD-S to MS300
Parameters - If you call Powermatic or Jet they will give you the parameter settings for the old drive. The MS300 has all the parameters the older drive has so you can program them the same. Some of the parameter numbers will be different so you can check the table below or review the parameters in the MS300 manual to make sure you are setting the correct parameter. MS300 Manual

Important Notes:
1. These settings may not be correct for your model Powermatic, please confirm with Powermatic. Confirmed Models - Jet JWL1642-164
2. For VFD-S drives use the parameter number in the first column. For MS300 drives use the parameter number in the second column. N/A means does not apply to this drive.

Motor Rated Current Check your motor amp rating. Set this 120% of that rating. For example if it is 10 amps, this setting should be 12 |
